The launch of this website marks the publication of a new book that has already been hailed by the College of Arms as being of unusual interest in that it is the story of an ordinary Anglo-Saxon family of yeoman stock rather than of the rich and powerful. It is a story woven into the very fabric and history of England, being closely entwined with such major events as the Battle of Crecy, the Wars of the Roses, the Reformation, the English Civil War, the Napoleonic Wars, the Battle of Waterloo, both World Wars, and the history of flight, as well as notable service overseas in America, India, Africa and Borneo.

New visitors to this site may like to take a look at the Stainforth Direct Line of Descent - from the time of the Black Death in 1348 to the present day - in just 23 generations. It shows our family to be an archetypal English mixture of soldiers, clergymen and farmers, butchers and wine merchants, as well as several more illustrious personages, such as several MPs, a Lord Mayor of York, a Keeper of the King's Manor, a Proctor for Northumberland, and a notable test pilot.
